The Story of Little A

When I got pregnant with oldest I was diagnosed with severe pre eclampsia. No big deal I was told as it is a first timers problem. It got worse and worse until I was admitted to the hospital and she was born 3 weeks early. It was a much worse story then just that but this isnt oldest daughters story.

Along came skater boy 4 years later. Everything was going great until my 5th month.WHAM! hit by high blood pressure and slapped into bed. for 3 and a half months. He was born 2 weeks early and I was told no more children or I would die. It was actually said just like that. It was also a much worse story but this is about little A.

So WH and I were left with our perfect little family. We were happy. We had wanted 4 but how could we be picky. Our children were healthy and you cant ask for more then that.
Flash forward to the summer of 2002.The first weekend in July to be exact. Oldest daughter and I were in New York for a dance competition. I was walking around town with one of the other moms and the subject of kids came up. I made mention that we had wanted 4 but were stopped short of that. She out of the blue says do you two want another child?
Well, of course but how I replied. She says to me (and I swear as unbelievable as it is this is EXACTLY how it went down) I know of a little girl right now that needs a home. But you will need to sign up for foster care immediately. Right now this little girl lives with her grandma and they have denied her adoption and she will be placed in foster care to be adopted out. She wasnt even in the system yet.
We head back to the hotel and I call WH. Our phone call was cut short so I didnt know what was happening on his end back at home. Little did I know that he cut our phone call short and planted himself on the steps of child services to wait for them to open.

They were blown away that he even knew about her! They put him through the process of emergency licensing though. Trying to convince him at the same time she was a long shot. He kept insisting no she was ours.
I flew home 2 days later not sure what had transpired in that time. Not knowing my WH had called every person he knew.He had taken emergency classes and baby proofed our house. He met me at the airport to tell me I was a mommy again! It turns out he grew up with her birth mother. Rode the school bus with her all through school. Knew her grandparents very well. They wanted her with us.

Of course it wasnt this easy.It was a long hard journey. With a lot of tears and anger. Little A was born addicted to Heroin. She had no mobility as she hadnt been picked up until she was 4 months old. Her grandparents at that time had found her and took her from her birth mother. Those two wonderful people are responsible for her having a quality life. They worked with her everyday they could. They wanted desprately to adopt her but because of health and other issues were denied.
They knew we would keep them in her life. Of course her birth mother fought. She wanted little A to know she had wanted her. I cant say that I blame her for fighting. Even though she didnt stand a chance it was frightening. Her birth father, well we wont get into that.Little A does have a birth sister though that she keeps in contact with and she also is an auntie. Sometimes this other family is very frustrating but it is hers so it is ours also.

December 16th,2003 we made that final trip to the courthouse. The day we all went before the judge and Little A legally took our last name. Not a dry eye among us. On our cell phones were long distance relatives that couldnt be there. My mom is convinced to this day that she was guided to us. I just laughed this off until we got her social security card in the mail. The numbers given to her on her first card were the first 5 digits of WH and the last 4 of mine. I know she was guided to us.
HAPPY ADOPTION DAY LITTLE A!!!!!!!!!!!!!
